| | Date | 10/17/2010
| | Time | 2:00-7:00pm
| | Description | On Saturday, April 10, 2010, Megan Britton, a 2nd grade student at Stony Creek Elementary in Alsip, collapsed while playing outside her home. Upon being rushed to Christ Medical Center, it was discovered that Megan had an AVM, arteriovenous malformation. An AVM is an abnormal connection between the arteries and veins that usually forms before birth. There are often no symptoms until the AVM ruptures, which was Megan's case. She underwent back to back open brain surgeries to remove the malformation and to control the bleeding. She has been admitted to Hope Children's Hospital. Megan was involved in the Alsip Little League, the Alsip Park District Soccer Program, and the Crestwood Soccer Club.
Tammy Castenada, Megan's mother, has had to take an indefinite leave of absence from her employment. Family and friends are holding a benefit to help this family with their mounting medical and housing bills.
