Josh's Gift to Share- Benefit for Joshua Groll - 115 Bourbon Street Special Event| Event | Josh's Gift to Share- Benefit for Joshua Groll
| | Date | 10/24/2010
| | Time | 2:00-7:00pm
| | Description | We are holding a benefit called Josh's Gift To Share. For those of you who don't know, Rick and Lara Groll have 20 month old twins, Jakob & Joshua. When they were 6 months old, Josh was diagnosed with water on the brain. At seven months old, he had a shunt put in to drain the spinal fluid from his brain to his abdomen. All was fine until this past March. His shunt wasn't working the way it was supposed to. They spent 11 days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Loyola. In those 11 days, Josh had 4 surgeries, the last of which was the placement of a new shunt. This shunt now drains his spinal fluid to his heart. He's doing great!
In the children's hospital at Loyola, they have a playroom for the kids. It is run by the Child Life Program. The Child Life Program thrives solely on donations. They provide toys, games, weekly therapy dog visits, activities, arts & crafts projects, etc. for the kids so that they may feel "normal" and forget that they are sick for a little while. Even though Josh had an IV in each arm and various tubes sticking out of him, he forgot all about them when he was enjoying the playroom.
That being said, that is why we are holding a benefit. It will help us with our medical bills, but more importantly, our goal is to make a substantial donation to the Child Life Program so that other children can benefit from it like Joshua did.
Tickets are $25.00 and include a 2 hour buffet, non-alcoholic beverages, beer and wine.
If you are unable to attend the benefit but would like to support this event, donations can be made to:
